Welcome! My name is Renee Gray-Wilburn, the owner of A Way With Words Writing and Editorial Services company. It all began for me after I left a career as a technical recruiter and human resources professional when my first son was born in 1996. In 1997 I welcomed the birth of my company, A Way With Words, in order to be home with my child.
A Way With Words began as a resume design company, servicing the needs of the high-tech community in and around Silicon Valley where I lived. The engineers I worked with were brilliant, but had no idea how to convey their expertise onto a resume…and therefore get a job! At the same time, I used my corporate knowledge to help businesses by providing copywriting, newsletter writing, and editing services, as I understood their need for professional writing with quick turnarounds.
After training through The Christian Writer’s Guild and The Institute of Children’s Literature, I began writing for publication. In 2005, shortly after moving to Colorado Springs, I published my first children’s article. I have now accumulated nearly 200 published pieces in the children’s, adult, and inspirational markets by writing for magazines, books, curriculum, and online publications.
My work encompasses numerous articles for Focus on the Family’s children’s and parenting magazines; several short stories and devotionals in anthologies such as the Cup of Comfort series, and Life Savors; and magazines such as Grand, KidZone, Christian Communicator, Quiet Hour, and Devotionals. In addition, I have co-authored over a dozen children’s curriculum books for major publishers such as David C. Cook and Group Publishing, developed adult small-group curriculum, and write regularly for various organizations. My first two solo books came out in 2012–Volcanoes! and Earthquakes!–written for Capstone Press as part of their Wild Earth graphic reader series.
Aside from writing, A Way With Words has provided editorial services for major publishers, independent authors, and organizations for over twelve years. These services include basic proofreading to content editing for any industry or genre of writing.
In addition to writing and editing, I love to teach and help others in their writing journey. Because of this, I have developed a series of writing workshops, many of which I have taught locally and nationally to adult writing groups as well as to children in elementary schools. I founded and facilitated an online children’s picture book critique group called Picture This and have also served as a teleclass instructor for a national children’s writers club, The Children’s Writers Coaching Club. Recently, I have expanded my services to include critiquing services for children’s manuscripts, short stories, and non-fiction manuscripts.
A Way With Words continues to provide resume and business writing services, along with creative writing and editorial services. For a complete list of services offered, please see the Writing and Editing Services page.
